About Us

At Prince of Peace Preschool, we believe that children learn best through play and hands-on exploration. Our indoor and outdoor classrooms provide a fun and stimulating learning environment where children can investigate and explore using their tremendous curiosity while developing kindergarten readiness skills. Our students explore our outdoor nature playground and garden year-round and on a daily basis. One of our primary goals is to develop a positive self-image in each child while practicing social, cognitive and language skills; affirming that he or she is a unique, special person. We utilize Creative Curriculum by Teaching Strategies to guide our learning with studies and activities that enable children to develop confidence, creativity, and life-long critical thinking skills. In addition, we utilize Learning Without Tears for pre-writing and incorporate a variety of music, process art, and gross/fine motor activities throughout the school day.

Perseverance

Our preschoolers recently had a lesson in perseverance! One of our families generously offered a load of “clean”sand (washed and safe for sandboxes) and to deliver it with their excavator! Oh joy! If you have a preschooler in your life, you know that trucks are one their top favorite things to watch and explore. They are so huge and each one has a job, purpose and special name. Well, trying to get an excavator loaded on a flatbed truck into our curved narrow driveway was an exercise in navigation, mechanical knowledge and patience! Mr. Hartman finally prevailed and the students were treated to one of the highlights of this spring if not the year, with the opportunity to observe the enormous bucket dump something meaningful to their daily school life and examine the truck up close and ask questions.
The teachers had an opportunity to discuss trying more than once, not getting frustrated, not giving up and the rewards of “try, try again.” Why is this important? Nurturing resilience, persistence, and flexibility can lead to children who are competent problem solvers who set goals, take risks, feel empowered and are willing to take on more challenges and develop strategies in the face of challenges. So yes, we will talk about the cool truck, make a thank you card, scribe their words and post photos in our classrooms, but we will also notice and reflect out loud about the perseverance it took to get that truck over to our playground and the amazing fun we had as a result!
Thank you, Hartman Excavating!
